DIY: Lemon Essential Oil

***I figured out later that you should never use extra virgin olive oil because it just smells like lemon-y olive oil. Use something with almost no scent.**

This weekend I went to an essential oils class thinking that I would be learning how to make lemon essential oil. Unfortunately, it was a product presentation. After getting over my initial anger of having to drive in the cold rain for nothing, I decided that I would attempt to make my own essential oil. I decided to start with lemon oil.

Lemon oil is known to relieve anxiety, combat fatigue, and can help with depression. You can use a couple of drops to your massage oil, or you can use in a diffuser to activate your mental alertness and memory. It also helps to open your third chakra to hopes to balance that energy. With a balanced third chakra, one can be more cheerful and outgoing, intelligent, skilful, and have a strong sense of their own power.

First Step in Making Lemon Essential Oil

First, I gathered what I needed. I had a glass jar ( I normally clean and reuse the ones I buy). The olive oil and lemons. Make sure to clean the lemons as much as possible to remove any chemicals on them. I also bought some cheesecloth. You can buy that online, or at a store similar to Whole Foods.

Next, I got a grater and started grating. I had the lemons in the fridge, so I needed to wait until they were a little less soft. In order to save time I started just cutting little chunks of the rind in the bowl.

Next, I simply added enough olive oil to cover ( I went back to add it to about half) the rinds and closed it. I will let it set there for two days, shaking it before I go to work and sleep, and then use a cheese cloth to remove all the plant matter when I am done!

Looking forward to seeing the results. When I am done, I am going to make a little video for it!
